let's work on your book—together
I'm now offering editorial consulting for fiction writers
As I hinted at in my April newsletter, I have news!
I’m launching a manuscript consulting service.
Over the past few years, lots of writers have reached out to ask if I offer feedback on manuscripts. Until now, the answer has always been no. I’ve been focused on my own projects and haven’t had the capacity to take on more.
That’s starting to change. I’m now opening up 2-3 editorial consulting spots each month.
Here’s the deal: I love story. I love picking them apart and putting them back together—figuring out what’s working, what isn’t, and why. I do this constantly with the books, shows, and movies I love, and with my author friends’ manuscripts when they’re trying to get unstuck.
After four books and six years as a full-time novelist, here’s what I know about the writing process:
At some point, you will hit a wall.
That does not mean the story is doomed or the writing is bad.
At some point, you will lose objectivity.
That does not mean you’re lost.
None of the authors whose books you love have gotten where they are on their own.
Writing is a solo endeavor. Editing is a collaborative one.
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and now feels like the right time—my new book, Revenge Plot, is all about a writer who longs to be published. I’m looking forward to working with fiction writers across the board: aspiring, agented, and fellow authors.
